Relay Service Specialist Program

A Relay Service Specialist (RSS) is a person/organization who educates the public about the use of relay service in Ohio. This program has been used successfully in several states where Sprint provides relay services. Through a Request for Proposal (RFP), various organizations that represent people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing develop the outreach efforts for state-wide contacts. These proposals are reviewed and evaluated by Sprint Nextel Account Manager and Ohio PUCO. The RSS program is managed by the Relay Ohio Account Manager.

By establishing the RSS, Relay Ohio will reap the benefits of outreach activities with many segments of the community, including but not limited to: Consumers, General Public, Businesses, and Service Providers, Agencies, and Educational settings. Specifically, it reaches out to the following users: Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, Senior Citizens, Sign Language users, Late deafened adults, Parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children, Speech Disabled and Speech-to-Speech, and employers

Several examples of outreach activities are: Exhibits/Booths, Advertisements, Newsletters articles, School-Related Events, Disability Awareness Events, Assistive Technology Events, In-class Presentations, Student Organization Events, and In-Service Training.

Contact the account manager, Danny Barrett, if you or your agency want to provide outreach services on Relay Ohio's behalf.
